Refutation of the claim that it does not follow from 7. and 8. that it is not worthwhile in general to use animals for conventional purposes:

  • If it is granted that using animals for conventional purposes is not worthwhile for them, and that what is unworthwhile for animals is irreconcilable with what is most worthwhile in general, it follows by logical necessity that it is not worthwhile in general to use animals for conventional purposes. The rule of inference is modus ponens.
