- Ethical egoism means in theory that people would agree to rules not to kill, rob, rape, deceive, break promises to, or otherwise seriously harm other human beings, because it is in everybody’s self-interest to agree to this.
- Ethical egoism does not seem to rely on making assumptions that everyone has good will, sympathy towards others, or a desire to treat others consistently with how oneself wishes to be treated, and in fact not everyone is benevolent.
- Many people seem to be selfish, so perhaps this ethic will work for them where other ethics fail.
